As per a survey conducted by a matrimony portal  bharatmatrimony,majority of Indian young women prefer arranged marriage with parents consent,while only a quarter of women prefer love marriage The survey of women in the age group of 20-30 carried out in various cities, including the four metros,  also revealed that 59 per cent of the respondents consider parent’s decision the most important priority in finalising marriage.

Only 20 per cent of the respondents felt that profession was the most important aspect in finalising their life partner while ten per cent said caste was the most important priority and 11 per cent said family nuclear or joint family – was the most preferred.

About 49 per cent preferred arranged marriage while 33 per cent ‘arranged love marrige’ and a meagre 18 per cent of the respondents favoured ‘love’ marriage.On the right age for a woman to get married, about 71 per cent said 21-24 was the ideal age for marriage.

Why young women in India prefer arrange marriage?

  • The predilection of arrange marriage is partly based on her contemplation of the cultural annotation of marriage in our country,that marriage is more a family affair and than individual one.
  • Love marriages in our country are looked down upon in our country,they are considered an opprobrium.
  • Despite modernisation,the traditional values aredeeply entrenched in a society where family, caste and religious obligations persist.
